OUR ADOPTABLE PET LIST!!!!

IF YOU RESCUE ME

"If you rescue me, i'll be your friend forever.
Let me in your bed, i'll keep you warm in winter.
All the kitties are playing and are having such fun,
I wish it could happen to me.
But if you rescue me, i'll never have to be alone again.
All the cars drive so fast and the people are mean and sometimes its
hard to find food.
Let me into your world, i'll keep you warm and amused.
All the things we can do in the rain!
If you rescue me i'll be your friend forever
Let me in your bed, i'll keep you warm in winter
Oh some day I know someone will look into my eyes and say
"Hello, You're my very special kitten"

PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING AN ADULT

Sadly, adult cats have the lowest adoption rates in shelters across the USA. Yet, adult cats also have so much to offer. There are many adults looking for homes. Each has their own story of disappointment. Perhaps their owners thought they weren’t cute anymore, or they moved away and left them behind, or they no longer wanted to care for them and put them out of their home. What they all have in common is that they are at the shelter because they are no longer wanted and they have no idea what they have done wrong. You will be giving them a second chance at a wonderful life. More than likely one of the reasons you are searching for a pet is to save a life. Most adults that are not adopted are euthanized. Therefore, by adopting an adult you will be giving them a second chance and you WILL be saving their life. Kittens are cute, fuzzy and playful but they can also be crazy and rambunctious. Most people want a kitten because they want it to grow up with them. But this also means that their personality changes with age. With an adult you can evaluate the cat’s actual personality. What you see is pretty much what you get. An adult cat is already full grown. Its body size, shape, color and behavior will not change. You will know how sociable the cat will be and what their activity level is. Adult cats are usually less rambunctious; they enjoy play time but also love snuggling up with you for some nice relaxation. Adults will adjust to your schedule. They also require less supervision and they are easier to care for. Most adults have already been neutered and have received their vaccinations. While adult cats do not always hit it off with you instantly, given time in a loving environment, a grown cat can form just as tight a bond with the family as a kitten can. Adult cats make ideal companions for those with busy lives and older people seeking friendship and love. They know they have been given another chance at living a wonderful life. They are grateful to have a home and in turn shower you with loyalty and affection.

OUR FEATURED PET "OPRAH":

Hi, my name is Oprah. I am very friendly towards people and other kitties. I love to play and get attention from my human friends. I know just how to get that attention too, I purr, chirp and trill and try to look cute and then I get exactly what I want! I also enjoy sleeping in pillowcases and helping with laundry. I like to lay on the warm laundry and grab at it with my paws when it is being folded.

Who We Are

Happy Feet is a cat rescue organization whose goal is to match our wonderful adoptive cats with the perfect owners. Our cats come from all over, but most are stray or abandoned. Upon arrival, our cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. They are neutered if of the appropriate age, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for any other ailments. We spend time with them, play with them, and nurture their personalities. We love each and every one of our cats, and it shows in their genuine love and respect for us. It gives us no greater pleasure to watch one of our sickly strays blossom into a beautiful feline, and then bittersweetly, we say goodbye to them to their forever homes.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption procedure consists of e-mailing one of our adoption coordinators, either Adrienne or Cathy, about the particular cat of interest. We will ask specific, general questions in our reply e-mail, and will ask for veterinary references. If approved by our adoption coordinator, we will set up an appointment for the potential adopter to visit the cat. Final approval on all adoptions will be made in person only, where the adopter must sign our adoption contract. A non-refundable adoption fee of $125 for neutered cats and $75 for kittens is asked. Any and all veterinary expenses incurred after the time of adoption are the responsibility of the adopter. Follow -up calls are made on all cases, and home visits must be made available under circumstances where we deem necessary.

A note about declawing

You might say that a person's hands help to define him, much as a surgeon's hands are different than a pianist's... a baseball pitcher's different from a boxer's.They may look the same from the outside...five fingers and opposable thumbs, but they are able to perform very distinct duties. I like to believe that cats are defined by their feet in much the same way, like our hospital cat Tash, for instance, who likes to use his claws to eat his sliced food. Then there is Lily...my 14 pound beauty who throws herself and clings to my 7 foot cat tree, using her strong claws to climb herself to the top. There is the gentle kneeding kitty, and there is the kitty that just has to attack that toy with all his claws out, ready for the kill. A cat's paws, his claws, are extensions of his soul...they are the very reason we named our rescue organization Happy Feet, and we do not condone declawing cats. If you are seriously considering declawing, I urge you to visit this page:

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9352/declaw.html

There are links to many informative sites about alternatives to declawing, and the truth about declawing. If you have declawed cats in the past, you are not alone. My first cat was declawed 10 years ago, and I vowed to never have it done again. I broke our trust that day. The times have changed, and its time to change our thinking as well...
